Man Charged with Killing Daughter to Avoid Support Payments
August 20, 2009
A Los Angeles man is currently on trial for the murder of his four-year-old daughter. The prosecutor for the case paints a negative image of the man- saying that he never wanted the mother to go through with the pregnancy, urging her to have an abortion, and that after the birth of the girl; he denied paternity (which was proven otherwise with a paternity test).
According to the trial, the man hurled the little girl off a 120-foot cliff to avoid paying his child support payments of $1,000. However, the man has pleaded not guilty to the crime. His defense attorney argues that the man was pleased to find out that, he would have visitation rights with the girl, and that the incident on the cliff was a complete accident.
If the man is found guilty of the crime, he will face life in prison without parole. His lawyer claims that the picture that prosecution is painting is “character assassination.”
