Oklahoma Man Sentenced to Prison for Failing to Pay Child Support
CHARLESTON, WV – SEAN MCCORMICK, 49, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was sentenced yesterday by Chief United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin to 21 months imprisonment for willfully failing to pay his child support obligation. MCCORMICK, who previously pled guilty on December 20, 2008, was also ordered to pay $93,961.00 restitution.
In 1998, MCCORMICK was ordered to pay child support for the benefit of his three children who reside with their mother in West Virginia. MCCORMICK made sporadic payments toward his obligation for a period, but then stopped paying altogether. MCCORMICK has not paid any child support since June 2004, despite being gainfully employed as, among other things, an airline mechanic. As of March 2008, MCCORMICK owed over $90,000 in back child support payments, in addition to his current support obligation of over $900.00 per month.
The United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Karen L. Bleattler handled the prosecution.
